March 2021 Releases
We have just reopened the tasting room and are thrilled to welcome you back for outdoor tastings!
The 2018 vintage saw a winter that brought unusual frost and even a sprinkling of snow! The frost did a little damage to several areas of the vineyard causing a reduced crop, which had a positive effect on the quality, which is exceptional! It was a cooler than usual spring and summer, so the grapes enjoyed extra time on the vine, allowing ideal depth of flavor to develop. We were able to harvest slowly with great care and had the luxury to choose perfect time to pick. The vine development was so thorough that we incorporated some whole cluster fermentation that adds yet another layer of complexity to our Pinot Noirs. Pinot Noir was unhurriedly harvested between September 10–28, Chardonnay was picked September 26–27.
We were extraordinarily patient before releasing this 2015 Pinotage in 2021 and we still think it deserves decanting and time to breathe before drinking! The 2015 vintage had an unusual drop in temperature in May, slowing bloom, resulting nearly half of our normal production. But these wines have an incredible depth and are aging with true grace.
We are greatly looking forward to a lovely spring and do hope you will come visit! – The Fort Ross Team
