The second in our 2014 series of Famous Food Movie Dinners will feature the menu from Big Night.

The Big Night dinner will take place on July 19, 2014. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. Big Night is $95 per person and is for Wine Club Members. The dinner will include selected Fort Ross wines.

Big Night is one of the great food movies. A pair of Italian brothers, recent immigrants to America, named Primo (Tony Shalhoub) a genius chef and his younger brother, named Secondo (Stanley Tucci), debate integrity versus compromise as they try to succeed in their authentic but failing Italian Restaurant the “Paradise.” To try and save the Paradise they seek advice from a competitor Pascal, who offers to do them a favor and invite his personal friend the great Italian-American singer Louis Prima to visit Paradise for a great meal – a Big Night. The visit will be reported in all the papers, business will pick up, and the restaurant will be saved. The preparations for the Big Night and the behind-the-scenes family drama that ensues culminate in the big feast prepared for Louis Prima. The restaurant is filled, and as the diners all wait for Prima to arrive, they begin to eat one magnificent course after another that Primo sends from his kitchen. As these dishes are presented and unveiled, the audience goes into a kind of reverie. There is a moment in the movie when a timpano is sliced open, and the audience sighs with pure delight. The food transcends the commonplace as it aspires to perfection.
